Lapeer dominated the third quarter and went on to beat host Dow High 65-42 in nonleague boys’ basketball on Monday.

The Lightning led 19-10 after one quarter before Dow trimmed the deficit to 32-25 by halftime. Lapeer then outscored the Chargers 18-5 in the third to go up 50-30.

“Lapeer’s gritty defense forced us into 21 turnovers on the night and gave them several easy points in transition,” said Dow coach Mark Dickerson. ” … The second half was a repeat of the first half, except that we never made a comeback. Lapeer continued to hit shots and create turnovers as they extended the lead.”

Nolan Fisher led the Chargers (1-3) with 12 points, while Jonah Dahn added 11.

Dow won the junior varsity game 54-42 behind 23 points by Vance Sowle.

Lapeer won the freshman game 61-42. Lucas Jordahl led the Chargers with 16 points.
