Grace A. Dow Memorial Library invites patrons of all ages to participate in a “Fall Into Reading” gourd decorating contest for the chance to win prizes. Participants can decorate gourds using paint, paper, oil pastels, yarn, and other items to create a book character or a scene from a favorite story, or to go wherever their creativity takes them.

Pick up a gourd and register for the contest at the library reference desk. Decorated gourds can be returned to the library Oct. 4-8. All gourds will go on display in the Library for public voting Oct. 12-30.

Beginning Oct. 12, patrons can pick up voting slips at the reference desk and cast a ballot for their favorites in the following categories: Children (grades 5 and under), Tweens and Teens (grades 6-12), and Adults. Two winners will be selected from each group to receive a gift card on Nov. 1.

Gourds are available on a first-come, first-served basis and quantities are limited. One gourd per entrant will be provided by the library; however, patrons may enter additional gourds into the contest if they supply their own.
