Dow High’s girls’ golf team finished second to Grand Blanc at the Saginaw Valley League championship meet at The Fortress in Frankenmuth on Tuesday, shooting a team score of 386 to the Bobcats’ 369.
The Chargers also ended up second in the overall league standings, trailing only Grand Blanc.
On Tuesday, Abby Wilson led Dow with an 87, while Abbey Ieuter shot a 92, Kylie Keefer carded a 99, and Rachel Rassette added a 108.
Midland High ended up ninth at Tuesday’s meet with a team score of 478, and the Chemics also finished ninth in the overall Valley standings.
Lindsey Deckrow led Midland with a 98, while Hailey Worsley shot a 115, Karleigh Bandemer a 128, and McKenna Sanders a 137.
Wilson and Ieuter were both named First Team All-SVL for Dow, while Keefer earned Second Team All-SVL accolades, and Paige Barnard earned an honorable mention for the Chargers.
Deckrow earned Second Team All-SVL honors for Midland.
Both the Chargers and the Chemics will compete at the Division 2 regional at Saginaw Public Golf Course on Oct. 4.
MIDLAND BOYS 1ST, DOW GIRLS 2ND; CROWLEY EARNS MEDALIST HONORS AT VALLEY JAMBOREE
Midland High’s boys finished first out of seven teams, and MHS’s Matthew Crowley was the meet medalist, while teammate Daniel Berg took second at Tuesday’s second Saginaw Valley League cross country jamboree, hosted by Saginaw Heritage at Imerman Park. Meanwhile, Dow High’s girls took second out of six teams, and Katie Watkins was second overall for the Chargers.
The Chemics won the boys’ race with 43 points, while Bay City Western was third at 71, and Dow took fourth at 91.
Western won the girls’ race with 32 points and had four top-seven finishers, while the Chargers had 47, and Midland was fourth at 96.
Crowley ran a time of 16:28.70, while Berg was right behind him at 16:38.74. Also scoring for the Chemics were Zachariah Shealy in fifth (17:04.53), Ben Bucci in 14th (17:42.42), and Caleb Brown in 21st (18:11.82).
For Dow, Colin MacGregor was 12th (17:38.07), while Ethan Meehle was 13th (17:38.78), Ben Scott 17th (18:00.52), Ethan Zinkweg 19th (18:09.72), and Sebastian Maldonado 31st (18:50.30).
Anden Robertson paced the Warriors in seventh (17:21.30), while Noah Selvaraj was 10th (17:33.89), Jeffrey Stecker 11th (17:34.74), Daniel Ebel 20th (18:10.74), and Ian Becker 23rd (18:17.87).
On the girls’ side, Watkins ran a time of 18:56.87, while Sydney Roberts was sixth (20:14.98), Sydney Lambert eighth (20:33.84), Tristan Luick 13th (20:45.78), and Ivy Beall 18th (21:25.94) for the Chargers.
For Midland, Rachel Mecca took 12th (20:49.34), while Grace Riddle was 14th (20:57.69), Madison Matonican 23rd (22:03.43), Abby Carroll 24th (22:05.31), and Lauren McGuirk 26th (22:06.20).
Isabelle Becker won the girls’ race for BCW in a time of 18:48.70, while Marin Stevens was fourth (19:72.92), Ambria Nagel fifth (20:06.12), Erica Slocum seventh (20:20.95), and Kylie Fredenburg 15th (21:02.95) for the Warriors.
CHEMICS TIE PETOSKEY IN TENNIS
Midland High battled Petoskey to a 4-4 tie in nonleague boys’ tennis on Tuesday.
The Chemics were swept in singles but won all four doubles flights.
For MHS, Jacob Doyle and Josh Doyle won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, Carter Albright and Braylen Laverty won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, Dietrich Greiner and Aiden O’Malley won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles, and Jordan Warner and Alec Albrecht won 4-6, 6-3, 13-11 at No. 4 doubles.
The Chemics (9-2-1) will compete in the Saginaw Valley League Championship on Thursday.
DOW VOLLEYBALL SWEPT BY BCC
Bay City Central swept Dow High 25-17, 28-26, 25-20 in Saginaw Valley League volleyball on Tuesday.
Summer Luick had seven kills for the Chargers, while Jessica Erickson had five kills, Alex Price finished with 17 assists, eight digs, three kills, and three aces, Alli Miller had 22 digs, and Delaney Belding added 12 digs.
“During the first game, we started off strong, but then BCC took over down the stretch. In game two, it was back and forth the entire game,” said Dow coach Ali Taylor. “During the final game, BCC started off strong, and we came back toward the end.”
The Chargers (11-10-4 overall, 3-3-0 Valley) will host Flint Powers on Thursday.
CREEK BOYS 4TH, GIRLS 6TH AT TVC WEST JAMBOREE
Bullock Creek’s boys took fourth out of seven teams, while the Lancers’ girls were sixth out of seven teams Tuesday at the second Tri-Valley Conference West cross country jamboree, hosted by Standish-Sterling at Pine River Golf Course.
St. Louis won the boys’ race with 23 points, while the Lancers had 115.
The Sharks also won the girls’ race at 30, while Creek finished with 154 points.
Grant Tilmann led Creek’s boys with a 12th-place time of 18:57.08, while Bailey Wiggins was 25th (20:22.60), Jacob Inman 26th (20:32.40), Kelvyn Kelly 41st (22:35.42), and Carter Wells 46th (22:59.05).
In the girls’ race, Rachel Tilmann was 16th (23:09.77) for the Lancers, while Brianna Smaltz was 37th (26:13.86), Autumn Fransen 39th (26:47.16), Kori Kisser 48th (28:26.33), and Taylor Allen 49th (28:31.68).
CHEMICS FALL IN JV, FRESHMAN VOLLEYBALL
Midland High lost 27-25, 25-23, 4-15 to host Mount Pleasant in junior varsity volleyball on Tuesday.
Brigid O’Malley had six kills and 16 digs for the Chemics, while Ava Keit had five kills and three blocks, Morgan Williams had four kills, nine digs, and eight assists, Hayden Purvis finished with 11 assists and 11 digs, and Grace Schloop added 24 digs.
Midland (21-5-2) will host Davison on Thursday.
Mount Pleasant also won the freshman match, 25-23, 25-17, 15-17.
The freshman Chemics (13-6) will also host Davison on Thursday.
