Prep Roundup: Dow swimming wins big over Heritage

Dow High dominated Saginaw Heritage 142-41 in Saginaw Valley League girls’ swimming on Tuesday to improve to 2-4 overall. Ella Roberson qualified for the state finals in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke for the Chargers, who are ranked ninth in Division 2.

Next up for Dow is the MISCA showcase meet at Calvin University this weekend, with qualifying divers competing Friday at 6 p.m. and qualifying swimmers hitting the pool Saturday at noon.

CHARGERS LOSE TO LAPEER IN VOLLEYBALL

Dow High fell 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 29-27 to host Lapeer in Saginaw Valley League volleyball on Tuesday, dropping to 12-11-4 overall and 4-4-0 in the Valley.

Summer Luick led the Chargers with six kills and six blocks, while Jessica Erickson also had six kills, Abby Rey had five kills, Alex Price finished with 24 assists, Alli Miller had 22 digs, and Delaney Belding added seven aces.

TILMANN LEADS CREEK GIRLS AT BIRCH RUN INVITE

Bullock Creek’s girls finished 11th out of 16 teams Tuesday at the Birch Run Fall Invitational cross country meet. Frankenmuth won the girls’ race with 53 points, while the Lancers had 290.

Rachel Tilmann led Creek in 12th place with a time of 22:38.27, while Brianna Smaltz was 67th (26:12.57), Taylor Allen 76th (26:47.46), Autumn Fransen 80th (27:29.54), and Elayna Walters 84th (28:45.81).

On the boys’ side, Grant Tilmann finished 16th (18:45.29) for the Lancers, who did not register a team score, while Jacob Inman was 48th (20:08.50), Kelvyn Kelly was 80th (21:59.03), and Carter Wells 98th (23:18.09).

MIDLAND CHRISTIAN WINS AGAIN

The Midland Christian-JC Club volleyball team improved to 7-0 with a 25-9, 25-10, 25-4 win over Life in Christ on Tuesday.

Alyssa Cole led the Crusaders with five kills and seven aces, while Lauryn Bittzer and Eve Bernelis each had four kills, Aapril Ballor had 15 aces, Elyse Phillips had nine assists and seven aces, and Macy Garcia added seven assists.

MC-JC heads to Owosso Home School on Friday.
