Midland Dow will carry the bulk of the Saginaw-area banner in the Michigan high school girls swimming state meet Friday and Saturday.

Midland Dow and Saginaw Heritage will compete in the Division 2 girls swim state meet at the Oakland University Aquatic Center.

Dow will try to improve on its 14th-place finish in last season’s state meet and is led by junior Ella Roberson, who took a fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and a sixth in the 200 freestyle last season.

This year, Roberson is seeded fourth in the 200 free and the 500 free, with legs on Dow’s 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams. Other members of the 200 free team include Chloe Stafford, Lauren Burgard and Emmy Sower. Sower, Stafford, Emily Thackery and Roberson are on the 400 freestyle relay team.

Sower, a sophomore, also qualified in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while Stafford is in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.

Thackery also qualified in the 100 freestyle and is on the 200 freestyle relay with Meya Luft, Alea Casipit and Eryn Murphy. Murphy, a sophomore, also qualified in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Burgard is also in the 100 breaststroke.

Midland Dow divers Emily Krzciok and Lauren Haines also qualified for the state meet.

Heritage is represented by senior Ella Banning, who is seeded fifth in the 100 backstroke. Banning finished 20th in the 100 backstroke last season.
