Dow’s ClimateCare in Kingston exemplifies the old saying: ‘The more things change, the more they stay the same.’ That’s because while homeowners may have noticed a new team of professionals catering to their HVAC needs, this team is continuing a 25-year tradition of quality that has made ClimateCare such a trusted brand.

Robert Lake, owner of Dow’s ClimateCare, explains, “We belong to an HVAC co-op of 34 individually owned companies, one of which presided over the ClimateCare brand in Kingston since 1996 until it was acquired by a large corporate company last year.

“Because my family had been serving the nearby Trenton and Belleville regions since 1978 as a ClimateCare specialist, it made sense for us to expand into Kingston. It was like the torch being passed from one ClimateCare member to another. We share the same philosophy, the same commitment to customer satisfaction, and the same resources, programs, and financing options.”

Also the same is a keen interest in being an active member of the community. Dow’s ClimateCare recently became the premier sponsor for the Kingston Rotary Gala 2022, which will take place on September 24. “Rotary is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and being a sponsor is important to me,” Lake says. “My father, the founder of Dow’s, has been a member for years. He feels strongly about Rotary’s mission of eradicating polio worldwide as my uncle contracted the disease when he was child.”

But Dow’s ClimateCare’s community involvement does not detract from its central focus of designing, installing, and repairing complete comfort systems for homeowners. Its slogan is ‘Care is in our DNA’, and one form this takes is the WeCare Maintenance plan, whereby for one low monthly payment homeowners receive annual precision tune-ups to keep their HVAC systems in top operating order.

The products covered by WeCare include everything from furnaces, air conditioners and boilers to fireplaces, water heaters and humidifiers. WeCare also provides discounted repairs and priority status for emergency service. “WeCare is wide-ranging simply because repairs aren’t cheap,” Lake says. “Sometimes they’re almost as expensive as replacing the equipment.”

Yet another strength of Dow’s ClimateCare is its ability to identify specific homeowner concerns about their HVAC equipment, and with regards to furnaces it has identified three top concerns: how often do filters need to be changed; is the furnace the right size for the home it’s heating; and does spending more on furnace efficiency make a difference? These concerns are addressed in depth along with possible solutions, in a free download from Dow’s website.

Over its 44 years in Trenton, Belleville and now in Kingston at 626 Cataraqui Woods Drive, Dow’s ClimateCare has earned excellent customer reviews, and one reason for this — apart from great service — is its ability to stay on top of emerging industry trends. The latest stems from Ottawa’s carbon tax increasing energy bills and causing homeowners to seek alternatives to natural gas use. Lake’s solution is heat pumps, which transfer rather than generate heat to make cool spaces cooler and warm spaces warmer. “We’re a one-stop heat pump provider, and that includes us identifying rebate programs for clients,” he says.

In fact, Dow’s ClimateCare helps clients navigate a wide range of rebates resulting in thousands of dollars in savings on home comfort upgrades overall. This is achieved with technicians and comfort advisors working with an Energuide Energy Advisor to audit a client’s circumstances, determine the best solution to home comfort and energy efficiency needs, and make recommendations that maximize the rebates available from NCCan, Enbridge, and ClimateCare’s manufacturer partners.

As for the HVAC products themselves, Dow’s ClimateCare offers CLARITY, a unique program that is more valuable than ever in today’s climate of high inflation. The program was developed for clients looking to buy a new furnace, water heater, air conditioner or water softener but not the expensive up-front costs. By paying a low monthly rate they can affordably purchase the best equipment, along with hassle-free repairs and regularly scheduled maintenance at no added cost.

As the new team of Dow’s ClimateCare gradually become familiar faces to Kingston residents, Lake points out that the advantage of being a locally-based company instead of a national chain is that his professionals have a firm understanding of specific regional climate conditions and energy costs — and of course can provide responsive customer service by virtue of their close proximity.

He says, “At the end of the day we’re your neighbours, and we’ll continue to work hard to make that a terrific relationship.”
