Dow Corning Corp. celebrated its 40th anniversary in June 1983 with an open house at its new corporate center at Carter and Salzburg roads.

The Dow Chemical Co. and Corning Glass Works formed a joint venture as Dow Corning Corp. in 1943.

Although scientists at Dow Chemical and Corning Glass Works were informally researching silicones before 1943, their formal incorporation in that year was to to fill contracts for the war effort. When World War II ended, the joint venture did not. Dow Corning began developing personal and industrial silicone products, the first company to produce the material for commercial use.

Here are some photographs from a Midland Daily News special section in 1983 celebrating Dow Corning’s four decades of growth.
