Dow poised for fresh record after latest inflation report

U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 poised for fresh record highs following the latest U.S. inflation report.

The August PCE Price Index showed price pressures remained subdued last month, helping to justify the Federal Reserve’s decision to deliver a jumbo interest-rate cut last week.

Here is where stocks stood shortly after trading began:

The S&P 500 gained 10 points, or 0.2%, at 5,755.

The Dow gained 105 points, or 0.3%, at 42,296.

The Nasdaq Composite rose by 34 points, or 0.2%, at 18,224.
