A $120,000 cryptocurrency scam is being investigated by police in Ontario.

Middlesex County OPP alleges that the incident occurred on Jan. 23 around 9 am in the township of Middlesex Centre.

Reports indicate that officers responded to a local residence, where upon arriving, there informed by an individual that they were the victim of fraud.

Investigations revealed that the victim joined what they believed was a legitimate investment group on an unnamed social media platform.

Upon being welcomed by members of the group, the victim then began allegedly investing in cryptocurrency.

The victim became suspicious after they were instructed to add additional funds to gain access to an initial investment they already supplied.

Police were then called, as the victim suspected they had become the victim of fraud.

Middlesex OPP noted that the investigation is ongoing and that if any provincial residents suspect they are being engaged fraudulently, to immediately cease all engagement with the suspected scammers.

Any Ontario residents with information on any active fraud schemes are encouraged to contact their local OPP detachment or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
