Canada will look to get off on the right foot in CONCACAF Gold Cup play on Tuesday night when they host Honduras in Vancouver.
The Gold Cup has been a staple of the continental football landscape since 1991. While the U.S., Canada and Mexico have dominated the tournament, it has given smaller countries the opportunity to play at a high level.

Canada might be one of the favorites to win the Gold Cup this year, but it seems more or less by default. The team is coming off winning the Canadian Shield, though they lost to Cote d’Ivoire in a disappointing match in Toronto last Tuesday. The Canadians also finished third in the CONCACAF Nations League, defeating the United States in the consolation match.
Yet, it is pretty well known that Canada Soccer, both on and off the pitch, has had its share of problems since the nation’s disappointing result at the FIFA World Cup three years ago.
Honduras has always been a tough team in international competition, and has expectations to get back to the quarterfinals in the Gold Cup for the first time since 2021.
