Mexico looks to secure a spot in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinals with a win on Wednesday night against upstart Suriname.
Mexico entered the tournament as heavy favorites to take home a second straight Gold Cup, but they had a little bit of a hiccup against the Dominican Republic on the opening night of the tournament. La Tri managed to strike first with a couple of goals around halftime, but the Dominican Republic managed to hang around, cutting the deficit to one for much of the second half. Yet, Mexico was able to withstand a late charge from their Caribbean foe, hanging on for a 3-2 win.

Suriname was also involved in a very close and chippy game against Costa Rica this past Sunday. Like the Dominican Republic, Suriname stumbled early, trailing 2-0 in the early stages. Yet, they rallied with three unanswered goals to take the lead in the second half. However, Costa Rica bounced back with a couple of goals, including Manfred Uglade completing a hat trick in stoppage time, to send Suriname to a 4-3 loss.
Mexico is 3-0-0 all-time against Suriname, last beating the nation in the group stage of the 2022-23 CONCACAF Nations League season.
