Another year brought another strong showing for The Real Deal at the National Association of Real Estate Editors’ awards ceremony. TRD secured 15 awards across 13 categories at last night’s ceremony in New Orleans.

Gold was TRD’s color this year as the staff nabbed the top prizes for Best Residential Real Estate Trade Magazine, Best Commercial Real Estate Trade Magazine, and Best Website. Judges praised TRD for printing a “high-quality, hard-to-stop-reading, dishy magazine.”

Individual reporters and staff members were also recognized for their coverage. Reporter Kate Hinsche was awarded a gold medal for Best Residential Real Estate Trade or B-to-B Magazine Story for her article on Palm Beach’s last remaining development site. Senior Reporter and Commercial Bureau Chief Rich Bockmann earned gold for Best Commercial Real Estate Trade or B-to-B Magazine Story for his piece on the family feud tearing apart the Sol Goldman real estate empire, which NAREE’s judges called “screenplay material.”

The Daily Dirt, the long-running subscribers-only newsletter by Senior Reporter Kathryn Brenzel, earned a silver.

Reporters Sheridan Wall and Emma Whalen, Senior Reporter Katherine Kallergis and Senior Editor Ellen Cranley also snagged silver medals. Wall was recognized for her cover story on celeb broker-turned-CEO Ryan Serhant’s plans to scale, which judges said captured “the essence of Serhant.” Whalen earned her nod for a profile of ground lease legend Jay Shidler. And Kallergis, Wall and Cranley were awarded for their breaking news surrounding the December arrests of the Alexander brothers

Other staff members took home bronze medals, including Senior Reporter Keith Larsen for his coverage of the mortgage fraud scandal that shocked the industry last year. San Francisco Senior Reporter Emily Landes was recognized for her piece on the evolution of Corcoran Icon Properties. And Hinsche secured her second prize of the year, a bronze for Best Real Estate Data Journalism Reporting alongside data editor Adam Farence, for their piece on Miami’s skyrocketing insurance premiums.

On the multimedia side, reporter Francisco Alvarado and video journalist Nicole Guillen took home the bronze for Best Video Real Estate Report for their video on the Wynwood, Miami development boom – the first win for TRD in that category.

Kallergis and fellow South Florida reporter Lidia Dinkova also earned honorable mentions for their collections of work covering residential and commercial real estate, respectively.
