Mount Pleasant's economy ranks best among U.S. coastal cities, ConsumerAffairs finds

Mount Pleasant’s economy was ranked as the best amongst the United States’ coastal cities by ConsumerAffairs in a new report listing the best coastal cities to move to.

ConsumerAffairs ranked the best places to live near the coast based on data from the US Census Bureau, Zillow, FEMA, and more looking at 143 metropolitan areas based on four key factors:

  • Affordability
  • Livability
  • Safety
  • Economy

Mount Pleasant came in at No. 19 on the list overall, but its economy took the top spot.

“With strong job growth, low unemployment, and fewer residents living below the poverty line than many other coastal cities, Mount Pleasant’s economy creates real opportunity,” said ConsumerAffairs Media Relations Specialist Dayna Edens. “Making it not only a beautiful city to live, but also a place where people can grow and thrive.”

The town ranked 22 in affordability, 134 in livability, and 26 in safety, with a total score of 67.17. ConsumerAffairs named Pensacola, FL. the best coastal city to call home with a total score of 73.02.

Of the top 50 cities listed, 21 are located on the East Coast, 16 on the Gulf Coast, and 13 on the West Coast. Hilton Head landed at the No. 55 spot with an economy rank of 7 and Myrtle Beach came in at 107 with an affordability rank of 9 to round out selections from the Palmetto State.
