Retail stocks were on track to post modest gains in Friday’s holiday-shortened trading session.
The SPDR S&P Retail ETF, also known by its ticker, XRT, was up 0.2%, compared with the S&P 500’s 0.3% gain.
For the most part, big-box retailers were leading the charge, while performance was mixed among specialty retailers. Walmart stock was up 0.8%, Costco Wholesale gained 0.5%, and Target rose 1.5%. Best Buy was down 1.6%.
