Who Are Team USA’s ‘Blade Angels’ Figure Skaters Going For Olympic Gold?

All the great trios have a name, and so do the three ladies competing for Team USA in the women’s individual figure skating competition at the Winter Olympic Games.

They have Taylor Swift narrate their commercials. One is the reigning world champion. One is the reigning national champion. And the third, only 18, is seen as one of the sport’s future stars.

So, who are “Blade Angels,” the three talented ladies ready to take their best shot at gold on Tuesday?

Amber Glenn

The big sister of the group, Glenn, is the oldest at 26. She’s one of the oldest American women to make her Olympic figure skating debut, and she already has a gold medal after the team event.

Whereas the other two Angels are prodigies, Glenn is someone who worked through her late teens and 20s to go from background character to main heroine. She’s transformed her body and routines to become one of the more impressive power skaters in the world.

Alysa Liu

At 20, Liu, the middle child, has one of the most interesting backstories of any competitor in Milan.

She won her first national title at 13, the complete opposite of Glenn’s journey. Also, unlike Glenn, she retired at 16, going away from the sport for a few years to be a kid and find herself beyond only focusing on figure skating.

But after rediscovering that competitive fire, she returned to the sport she loves and is focused on having as much fun as possible. That new mantra helped her win last year’s world championship and put her in position to fulfill the destiny she’s had since she was a child: winning women’s gold.

Isabeau Levito

The “princess” of the team, Levito, enters the Olympics under the least pressure. In a recent interview, she said that hanging out in the Olympic village is a dream and that she’s already felt like she’s won.

Don’t let her kind demeanor fool you, though, as she is also taking her best shot at making the podium and winning the gold medal. Like Liu, she won the national title as a teenager (16) and is a serious contender in Milan.

Levito is a big game performer. She’s finished fourth, second, and fourth again at the past three World Championships.

While Glenn and Liu have gotten all the attention due to competing and winning in the team event, don’t overlook Levito.
