The U.S. men’s hockey team sits one win away from its first gold medal since “The Miracle on Ice.”

Team USA dominated Slovakia in the semifinal matchup Friday, winning 6-2 at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena to advance to the gold-medal game against Canada.

It’s the first appearance in the men’s hockey final for the U.S. since 2010, which the team lost to Canada to take silver in its last appearance on the Olympic podium.

The U.S. men’s hockey team is guaranteed of its 12th Olympic medal, which includes golds in 1980 and 1960. They’ll look to add another Sunday when Team USA takes on Canada at 8:10 a.m. ET/5:10 a.m. PT.

Canada advanced earlier Friday with a come-from-behind victory over defending gold-medalist Finland, erasing a 2-0 second-period deficit.

The U.S., coming off an overtime thriller in the quarterfinal against Sweden, allowed for no drama and no doubt in its semifinal matchup. Dylan Larkin opened the scoring with a goal off a feed from Zach Werenski just 4:19 into the game. Tage Thompson scored on a one-timer with 40 seconds left in the period to increase the lead to 2-0, making it the first time in the 2026 Olympic the U.S. scored multiple goals in the first period.

Team USA, in the second period, scored two goals within 19 seconds as Jack Hughes and Jack Eichel both found the back of the net to extend the lead to 4-0. Hughes added another goal late in the period to send the U.S. into the third with a 5-0 advantage.

After Juraj Slafkovsky scored Slovakia’s first goal of the game early in the third period, Brady Tkachuk answered with a breakaway goal to increase the U.S. lead to 6-1. Slovakia then tacked on another goal less than three minutes later when Pavol Regenda scored to make it 6-2.

The unbeaten U.S. squad moves on to face its rival with a chance to end Team USA’s gold medal drought.

A win would also mark the first time in history that both the U.S. men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold at the same Olympics, with the women’s team having secured gold Thursday in a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Canada.
