Eileen Gu continues to set herself apart, becoming just the second athlete in Olympic history to earn a gold or silver medal in each of their first six events of their Winter Games career.
The only other person to do so was former Russian cross-country skier Lyubov Yegeorova.
Gu achieved the feat, highlighted by NBC Sports’ Nick Zaccardi, with her gold medal performance in the women’s freeski halfpipe, which came after the six-time medalist recorded a 94.75 on her final run. Her victory placed her in rarified air as the only woman to defend her freeski halfpipe medal.
The 22-year-old has now won three gold medals and three silver medals across her performance in two separate Olympics.

She previously became the youngest ever freestyle skiing Olympic champion at the 2022 Beijing Games, when Gu took home two gold medals and one silver. Along with freeski halfpipe, she also competes in the slope style and big air events.
The two-time Olympian earned two silver and one gold at this year’s games to increase her medal total to six for her career. Her three medals at the 2026 Winter Olympics are tied for eighth among individual medalists.

Although she was born and raised in California and attends Stanford University, Gu has represented China at the past two Olympics. Her decision to do so, which she says was made to honor her mother’s Chinese heritage, has been widely criticized.
“Like, if I wasn’t doing well, I think that they probably wouldn’t care as much, and that’s OK for me,” said Gu, per USA Today. “People are entitled to their opinions.”
According to FOX News, Gu is the highest-paid Winter Olympic athlete in the world, earning an estimated $23 million in 2025 through partnerships with Chinese companies.
