In the U.S., this month’s final batch of Social Security payments is to go out next week: on Wednesday, Mar. 25.
Who gets Social Security on Mar. 25?
Payments are to be made to recipients born between 21st and 31st of any month. (NB: If you claim benefits based on someone else’s work record, that person’s date of birth applies – not yours.)
Mar. 25’s payment is part of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) three-Wednesdays cycle: Of the 70 million who claim Social Security – be it retirement, disability of survivor benefits – most are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month.
In March 2026, this birthday-dependent payment cycle is:
- Born on 1st-10th: Wed., Mar. 11
- Born on 11th-20th: Wed., Mar. 18
- Born on 21st-31st: Wed., Mar. 25
How much are monthly Social Security benefits on average?
- Retired workers: $2,076.41
- Disabled workers: $1,633.76
- Survivors: $1,623.28
Who isn’t paid on a Wednesday?
- Some long-term recipients: Tuesday, Mar. 3
Beneficiaries who signed up for Social Security before May 1997 are paid on the third of each month, regardless of date of birth.
- Dual beneficiaries: Tuesday, Mar. 3
Social Security can be combined with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a separate benefit for certain low-income individuals. These twin beneficiaries are also paid Social Security on the third of the month, no matter their birthday. (SSI typically goes out on the first.)
