Legendary investor Warren Buffett on Tuesday said that it would be a dangerous scenario if Iran if Iran were to obtain a nuclear weapon amid the ongoing war in West Asia.
In an interview with CNBC, the 95-year-old said that nuclear weapons will be used “one way or another” over a period of time and raised concerns over unstable actors gaining control over them.
“I would say that one way or another, in the next 100 years or so, something will happen that will cause (nuclear weapons) it to be used. And we can’t take what is out there now. And if you thought it was dangerous with the Soviets and us … just wonder who we are dealing with … I would say the most dangerous thing is someone who has the hand on the switch who is dying themselves,” he said, signalling support for US action to pursue Iran’s enriched uranium.
Buffet added: “I do know that, it would be more difficult if Iran has the bomb then if they don’t.”
He said that the world was worried when only two countries, US and Russia (formerly USSR) had nuclear weapons, and noted that now nine countries have atomic warheads, including North Korea.
“Think of how you’d feel with Iran and North Korea with nuclear weapons,” he said.
Buffett also recalled historical tensions due to countries possessing nuclear weapons, adding that the world has faced “a lot of close calls” on that front.
The ongoing war between US and Iran is rooted in long-standing tensions over Tehran’s nuclear programme, with Washington citing fears of nuclear weaponisation as justification for military action.
