University of North Carolina head football coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, are looking to spin critics of their relationship into a successful business venture.
According to Cllct’s Darren Rovell, Belichick and Hudson filed a trademark for the term “Gold Digger” with the intention of using it to produce a line of jewelry and key chains.
Gold Digger is one of many trademark filings made by Belichick and Hudson this year, including “Chapel Bill,” “Belestrator,” “Trail of Salty Tears,” “No Days Off” and “The Belichick Way,” per Rovell.
Belichick, 73, is about embark on his first season as head coach at UNC after winning six Super Bowls as head coach of the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2023.
In June 2024, Belichick and the 24-year-old Hudson went public with their relationship, leading to plenty of judgment from outside observers and questions regarding Hudson’s motivations.
That was amplified during the spring when Hudson was vocal and took control at points during a Belichick interview with CBS to promote his book.
Pablo Torre reported on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast (h/t ESPN’s David Hale) that Hudson had been banned from UNC facilities, and people close to Belichick were “worried” that Hudson would diminish his legacy.
However, the University of North Carolina subsequently issued a statement denying that Hudson had been banned.
While the questions and criticism surrounding the relationship aren’t likely to go away any time soon, Belichick and Hudson are clearly looking to parlay a negative connotation into a profitable endeavor.
