The United States looks to build off its strong effort in group play at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, hoping to punch the country’s ticket back to the semifinals when it faces Costa Rica on Sunday night.
There were many questions about what type of status the U.S. would be in heading into this year’s Gold Cup. With numerous key players sitting out, some questioned if the team had enough mustard to truly be a contender, especially how the last Gold Cup ended, along with the Yankees’ fourth-place finish in the Nations League.

Yet, the Americans proved their worth by winning a relatively weak Group D, beating teams like Saudi Arabia, Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti, albeit by narrow margins.
Costa Rica had a fairly solid outing in the opening round. They did what they had to do in order to beat the Dominican Republic and Suriname, grabbing a draw against Mexico in its final match to finish second in Group A.
The Americans have made it to the Gold Cup semifinals every time since 2000. Costa Rica has advanced to the final four since the 2017 edition of the tournament.
