The Americans hope to start off their CONCACAF Gold Cup run on the right foot on Sunday when they go up against Trinidad and Tobago.
The Gold Cup has been a staple of the continental football landscape since 1991. While the U.S., Canada and Mexico have dominated the tournament, it has given smaller countries the opportunity to play at a high level.

The Americans are once again favored to do well in the tournament, though, they have a slightly more depleted roster than in the past. They also have not fared well in international competition since the World Cup three years ago. In 2023, they failed to make it to the Gold Cup final for the first time since 2015. Then, they finished fourth in the CONCACAF Nations League, thanks to a loss to Canada in the consolation match.
They look to grab an early win against a Trinidad and Tobago team that is entering the Gold Cup for the fourth consecutive tournament for the first time since 1973. They have not made it out of the group stage since 2015.
The U.S. is 22-4-5 against Trinidad, though the Caribbean nation stole a 2-1 win in Nations League action in Nov. 2023.
