Dow up nearly 300 points as stocks push to session highs
U.S. stocks have hit their highest levels of the session as the S&P 500 attempted to erase most of its losses from earlier in the Santa Claus rally period.
Here is where stocks stood in recent trading:
The S&P 500 was up 63 points, or 1.1%, at 5,931.
The Dow was up 265 points, or 0.6%, at 42,656.
The Nasdaq Composite had gained 279 points, or 1.5%, to 19,560.
