Ghaziabad: A 14-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his cousin over a cryptocurrency-related debt, police said. The accused, identified as 23-year-old Yuvraj alias Yash Prajapati, a cabin crew member and crypto trader, has been arrested.
Reportedly, Yuvraj had borrowed around three lakh rupees from his uncle, Manbir, to invest in cryptocurrency.
While he made some profits, he panicked when his uncle demanded a partial repayment of 50,000 rupees. Police alleged that Yuvraj then plotted to kill his cousin, Lakshya, to avoid returning the money.
The crime occurred on the night of 16 September. Yuvraj reportedly lured Lakshya under the pretext of watching a film, took him to a theatre in Preet Vihar, Delhi, strangled him, and crushed his body with bricks before abandoning it.
He then went to V3S Mall, watched a movie, and returned home, even joining the family in the search for the missing boy.
The case came to light after a missing complaint was filed at Khoda police station. Investigators used CCTV footage, mobile location tracking, and informant tips to confirm that Yuvraj was the last person seen with Lakshya. He later confessed to the killing during questioning.
Indirapuram ACP Abhishek Srivastava confirmed the arrest and said the accused has been sent to jail.
