Senator Daines discusses Federal Reserve rate

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KUMV) – Montana Senator Steve Daines says he would like the federal reserve to lower its interest rate.

It’s something President Donald Trump has been pushing for as a way to further spur the economy. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has kept the rate steady as the reserve waits to see the impact tariffs brings to the economy going forward.

“I know the president is putting a lot of pressure on the fed to see some relief. Looking at the unemployment and inflation numbers, I think we may start seeing some downward trends in interest rates perhaps as early as September,” said Daines.

The Fed’s rate impacts a number of things including mortgages and car loans.

It’s designed to stay independent and resist political influence.
