Springfield has been identified as the number one real estate market in the United States for November by Realtor.com. The real estate website said in a Dec. 12 posting that Springfield has consistently ranked in the top 20 markets for at least three years, but this past month took over the top spot largely due to its proximity to Boston.

Danielle Hale, chief economist for the website, said in the website’s post that Springfield’s market was influenced by the Boston area’s jobs in education, technology and research.

“With an abundance of high-skilled jobs, we also see more flexible work arrangements, either remote or hybrid positions advertised in Boston job listings,” Hale said in a statement on realtor.com. “This likely benefits surrounding areas that are near to and much more affordable than Boston, as previous research has shown homebuyers pursue housing in lower-cost markets when they have workplace flexibility.”
