Stock Market Today: Dow futures rise after losing start to 2025

U.S. stock futures rose on Friday after a losing start to the trading year.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 84 points, or 0.2%, to 42778.

S&P 500 futures gained 16 points, or 0.3%, to 5933.

Nasdaq-100 futures increased 81 points, or 0.4%, to 21249.

On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 152 points, or 0.36%, to 42392, the S&P 500 declined 13 points, or 0.22%, to 5869, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 30 points, or 0.16%, to 19281.

The first trading day of the year was marked by losses for Tesla, which reported an annual decline in sales, as well as Apple. Tesla has now dropped 18% over the last five sessions, though the company headed by Elon Musk is still up 51% since the election.

The Institute for Supply Management manufacturing report could move markets when it’s released at 10 a.m. Eastern.

U.S. Steel was trading lower after the Washington Post reported President Joe Biden will block Nippon Steel’s acquisition of the Pittsburgh company.
