Stocks looked poised to continue their recent winning streak as the three major U.S. stock-market indexes opened higher on Tuesday.
After a weak December, stocks have started January strong. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4% in the first three trading days of the year, its strongest start to the year since 2021. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 rose 1.6%, its strongest start since 2018, and the Nasdaq Composite was up 2.9%, its strongest start since 2009.
But that momentum could be challenged. Key economic data is due after the opening bell, including the ISM services and JOLTS job-openings reports. Jobs data may have the potential to affect market moves.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened at 42,809.71, up about 0.3%.
The S&P 500 opened at 5,993.26, up about 0.3%.
The Nasdaq Composite opened at 19,938.08, up 0.4%.
