The stock market is starting to put its December slide behind it.
The Dow was up 331 points, or 0.8%, in midday trading. The S&P 500 was up 1.2%. The Nasdaq Composite gained 1.8%.
Even more encouraging was that the market shook off some earlier jitters after President-elect Donald Trump disputed a report that said his tariffs would be pared back. Wall Street hates uncertainty, so the back and forth could have spelled trouble for the market’s early gains.
