MONROE, La. (KNOE) – President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act into law on Dec. 23, 1913.

The act created the Federal Reserve System.

It has a central, independent board of governors and 12 regional Federal Reserve banks throughout the country.

The Federal Reserve sets the nation’s monetary policy.

It supervises and regulates banks and provides financial services to the government and other financial institutions.
