Benchmark indices surge 1% each overnight despite Iran’s attacks on US air bases in Qatar and Iraq. The surge came after it was highlighted that the attacks were co-ordinated and not out of the blue, ensuring no human casualties. The Dow Jones ended with gains of close to 400 points. The biggest casualty in this ceasefire announcement has been oil, with Brent declining over 8% and back to levels of $70 per barrel, having tested $81 per barrel overnight. The gold prices and the US Dollar index have also declined. With this, the focus gets back to business as Donald Trump’s July 9 deadline draws closer.
